I am a true blue Wal-mart hater

Well the semester is now over =) I am ready for a break…in fact I am writing to you from a computer lab on the Purdue campus in Indiana. I am here on vacation!!!

There is a great blog out there titled Planet Maria. She has written a great piece about Wal-mart. I want to encourage all of you to go to it and read the Ode to walmart.

Here is my response to her post. I wanted to use it as one of my own posts as well.

I too am a long time Wal-mart hater. Unlike the majority of the United States I cannot afford TO shop at the store. My own personal ethics do not allow my to give one of my hard earned dollars to a company that forces manufacturers to take their companies to other countries because they have cheaper labor; therefore ending thousands of peoples jobs in the United States. In turn these people are forced to go on unemployment to survive. In my little world all of the Wal-mart patrons (US citizens) are causing the unemployment/financial hardship onto their own citizens.
It hurts my heart that the Walton siblings (who are in the top 5 richest people in the WORLD) do not value their employees enough to pay them better.
While I am a college student who does not have the funds to buy music cds or go to movies like I want, I DO have the money to pay a few extra cents to buy bread at another store. Again my own personal ethics allow me to buy laundry detergent at a grocery store rather that save $1.00 by going to Wal-mart. How can I NOT afford to support the hard working Americans? I would rather pay a little extra here and there and have my taxes remain lower because less people are on welfare than save that dollar and have to endure tax increases due to higher demand of unemployment checks.
Well I will get off my soap box…..just one last thing. STOP SHOPPING AT WAL-MART!

Mary Ann you are so awesome! I love your comments and I think you're great. I am impressed that you are able to avoid Wal-mart. I am continually sucked in by their cheap vortex and don't know when I'll be able to break free. You have given me something to think about.
You first-years know how to party! Thanks for always inviting me; it's a blast to talk with you kids.

MaryAnn,
I love that you are writing from a computer in Indiana. I used to live on that very campus at Purdue in married student housing. It is a beautiful campus isnt' it.

I have read Maria's blog and loved her Walmart piece so yours is totally appropo and on the same vein. I don't share you and Maria's passion as an anti-walmarter but will definitely question my consumer practices for any egregis wrongdoing. Have a great vacation!
