Happy Birthday Dan!!!

Saturday January 24 was Dan's birthday. It stared out for me waking up at the crack of dawn and making cinnamon rolls from scratch. It took forever for the dough to raise because our house is sub-zero! Dan did not get up until 10 am. Just in time for the rolls. After eating he wanted to go back to bed to snuggle. Yeah right-snuggle; I had other thoughts but nope he fell asleep and so I read while he slept and snuggled up. He woke up at 12:30 and was like man we slept a lot. I laughed. He showered and pouted a touch because I did not join him...I already had my shower:)

We then went to the east hills of Portland and looked at a 1973 Dodge truck. After working on it for a while to get it to start Dan decided to buy it. Then he talked the man down to half price! Amazing! We then had to get a trailer to transport it to our house. So now it is 8 pm at night. It has been a cold wet day. I am grumpy and feel bad because it is his birthday. So we go to Red Robin for dinner. Dan got the whole song and balloon and sundae treatment. It was fun to watch him be like a kid!
I tried to get a better pic and out came the tongue....that blasted yet wonderful thing!

This was taken on New Years in Hermiston. Dan is using his plasma torch to cut up the body of an old Jeep.

My pyro....

Dan getting ready to go to drill for the Nat. Guard. See he does own a razor;)

I have to be sneaky taking pics because when he knows about it his tongue finds its way into the pic.

In this pic Dan was really upset at his mother. This is his Jeep Willeys that he is building from all sorts of parts...

Here Dan is sitting in the hall waiting for class to start. I went with Dan to the first day of class just for fun.

See that tongue ;-P

Dan is thinking hard on his birthday. He is reading an invitation from the military for a formal dinner. Should he go or should he stay...

I dont remember when this was taken. How cute is he all snuggly in my WSU Dental Hygiene blankie

Last but not least. This is Dan's butt! He climbed into the Dodge truck to tighten the power steering belt. It was snowing at the time. And I thought it would be funny to show the world his butt once again.
But mostly I want the world to know how wonderful I think he is. I know Dan to be a caring man. He is a wonderful companion. He has some serious skills. Dan makes me smile. He makes me laugh. He tickles me until I do...which is great when I am being a pill. He is a great driver and multi tasker! He loves me and that makes him a genius! He is a dreamer and children lover. His eyes leak while watching Extreme Makeover Home Edition! He lets my eyes leak and never freaks out about it. I love his butt. I love his heart. I love his scruff and I love his razor clean face. And while he loves onions and pizza--not my favs I still love this man who had a birthday on Saturday. I love him more that I thought possible. Happy Birthday Baby!

Nerding Out

Ok everyone, I gotta nerds out for a minute. So this patient came in to have a regular perio maintenance appointment. He has been seen in the office since 1980 (before my dr bought the practice) He has been coming every 3 months to have his teeth cleaned. He has had diabetes for about 2 years--well diagnosed. He has good homecare. in 2007 he had his maxillary teeth pulled and a denture made. So he has been battling perio disease for a long time. He should be pretty aware of his perio health by now. Well 6 months ago he saw the regular RDH that was in the office (whose job I replaced) then 3 months ago he saw a temp. The reg RDH said all was looking good and that he was fine. The temp changed it all. She found general 4-7 mm pocketing, heavy subgingival calc etc. and recommended that he have SRP done. So my dr does the SRP. Then takes an xray after and there is still sub calc on the lower anterior teeth. He dismisses the patient and then proceeds to tell me that there is calc still on the lower teeth from last time and that he had worked for 35 minutes and it was still there. I was frustrated. I HATE dentists cleaning teeth. They are just not thorough enough for me. So I prepared myself to clean his lower teeth. It took me the whole hour to clean those 14 teeth! This mans lip was strong! I kept telling him to relax etc. I did not take an xray after but wanted to; the patient refused. I feel I got it all off. I saw boulders come out with the ultra sonic and the teeth felt smooth. So I feel I did a good job.

The patient however was very frustrated. He was confused as to why his teeth were so dirty after 3 months. What was I suposed to say...the last rdh missed this calc for years and the dds did too? Except the dds did not miss it he just did not remove it. I tried to play the diabetes card and explain the link between perio and blood sugars. But you know what supra was perfect. His tissues looked good. I can really see how that other rdh missed it. It was very deceptive. Well the appointment ended well and the patient was ok with the work I did and was resolved to clean better and floss more and brush after eating each meal etc. I am sure in 3 months when I see him again it will be a lot better. Well the probe depths might not, but the amount of calc will be....I hope. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest and nerdingout for a minute.

Another week

Just for the record Nursery is not bad. This will be the beginning of my 9th year teaching nursery or sunbeams....almost the same thing. I am just a bit burned out even though it has been 1.5 years since my last nursery calling. I am frustrated that I have not learned what I need to to graduate on to something more adult. It is kind of making me had children. Maybe that is what I need to learn....to love even when I dont want to. Well there are only about 3 that come every week so I cannot complain. Previous experiences have been 13-27 and sometimes I am the only one in there. It can be very non spirit promoting.

Ok so we had the Elders over for dinner on Thursday. They had requested breakfast. My favorite! So I made crepes. What was funny is that our little house is so little. We do not have a table-or room to put one. Our couch sits 2 and I only had plates for 4. So I served the crepes on a frying pan lid and we all sat where ever we could find a place. We huddled into the small kitchen to prepare our crepes and load up on eggs, hashbrown and bacon. It was so funny to have 3 grown men and me (who is not tiny by any means) in this small kitchen. We were all trying to be polite and not bump into each other but we did. It was a great night. The missionaries had another meeting after dinner and needed travel time so they left after 40 min. It was nice and sweet.

That is just about all that happened this week. Just working. There has not been any rain this whole week. It has been lovely weather! I am ready to get out and enjoy it today...wonder what I will do and see today. Next weekend....Lycans is what I will be seeing ha ha ha I am such a nerd!

The Coast!!

I made it to the Oregon coast today. It was quite the miracle! Well not really but you know gotta sound dramatic. Dan got up at 5:30 left by 6 and so I was awake so I got up and cleaned then left the house @ 8:30 am. I drove to Tillamook. It was lovely. There was fog and high rivers/creeks (they call them creeks I call them rivers). There has been flooding and all the rivers are very high and moving fast. Like Utahs creeks in May after snow melt in the mountains-which is what is happening here the freak snow is melting. Anyway they were impressive.

This is at Oceanside.

It was about 46 degrees, wind blowing, super cold water and it was forecasted to rain...luckily I missed that part.

At the Tillamook cheese factory tour there was a thing about how much rain they get from Oct to April 90 inches....that is 7 feet 5 inches. That is a lot of water.

I got some ice cream from Tillamook. I ordered carmel toffee crunch but got carmel praline. I was grossed out. I hate nuts even pralines. Sad thing was that I did not know until I was driving away. I was grossed out and disappointed. Luckily Dan wanted squeaky cheese so I am alright.

I am a skilled photographer!

The waves were so beautiful and the sounds were therapeutic! I had the best day. I really think what was great about it was that I was alone. I got to listen to my tunes and sing as loud as I could. I did what I wanted and when I wanted to. It was all about me today. I have been a loner for so long in my life and while I love Dan it is really nice to have some me time. After I got home today I walked to the library. It was a great walk. On my trip back it started to rain...of course. So I got a little soggy. But other than the ice cream mishap today has been a wonderful day.

Who Am I?

Here it is the new year and I am feeling like a loser! My friend from hygiene school, Natalie was here in Oregon visiting another friend, Jessie and we met up and had some dinner while Ben and Dan played pool us girls chatted. It was so good to chat about teeth. I wanted to talk more about teeth but they wanted to talk about Dan and me...go fig.

This made me realize that I was extremely selfish and closemouthed about Dan. I should have been more sharing with info about him. I might post one or two of the greater stories....Anyway, Natalie and Jessie and Ben had been to the coast all day. I have been here for 2 months and still have not been there. I am all sorts of mad at myself. What has happened to me? The old me would have gone there by myself since I cannot seem to find a day Dan can and will go with me. So my goal now is to go this weekend while he is doing his National Guard drill thingy. So anyone want to come...Emily....seriously I am going to go to Tillamook (the land of cheese, trees and ocean breeze ha ha ha) and eat some ice cream and enjoy the cold coast! I'll post pics for sure.
I hope your new year is going great!
